Building a quiz
Turn a form into a quiz, set points and answer keys for each question type, and understand how partial credit and text matching work.
Turn it on
Select Form settings in the builder outline and find Make this a quiz under Quiz mode. Once it is on:
- each question card gains a Points field in its footer;
- each option of a choice question gains a check mark button labelled "Mark as a correct answer";
- the settings panel of every question gets a Quiz section.

Points
A question is scored only if it has points. Set Points to a positive number, up to 1,000, decimals allowed. Points at 0 means the question does not count towards the score, however it is answered. The maximum score of a quiz is the total of the points of the questions a respondent actually saw.
Questions hidden by show-if rules, or on pages the respondent skipped, are not graded and do not count towards their maximum. A scored question that is visible but left unanswered scores 0.
Answer keys by question type

Partial credit
With Partial credit on for a checkbox question, the share earned is the number of correct options picked, minus the number of wrong ones, divided by the number of correct options, never below zero. Picking two of three right answers and nothing else earns two thirds of the points. Picking two right and one wrong earns one third.
Text matching
For text answers, case, extra spaces and accents are ignored. "Paris", " paris " and "PARÍS" all match the accepted answer "Paris". Add spelling variations, or alternative answers, as extra lines, since only exact matches after that clean-up count.
Text answers are a good fit for short factual questions. They are a poor fit for anything where respondents can phrase a right answer in many ways; use a choice question, or Grade by hand.
Feedback
Each question has Feedback when correct and Feedback when wrong, up to 500 characters each. They appear next to the question in the respondent's review, if you let respondents see correct answers. See Timers, retakes and results.
Answer keys stay private
The correct answers are stored in the form definition on the server, and they are left out of what is sent to the respondent's browser. Someone reading the page source or the network traffic while filling the form in cannot find the key.
Limits and plans
- A quiz cannot be combined with Allow editing after submit, because editing would reopen the answer key.
- Ranking and grid questions have no answer-key controls in the builder, so they cannot be scored automatically. Give points only to the types in the table above.
- Quiz mode is a plan feature, checked when you publish. See Default plan limits.
