Choices, ratings and grids
Multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdown, yes or no, ranking, scale, stars, NPS, slider and both kinds of grid, with the options each one has.
Choice questions
| Type | Label in the picker | Respondent picks |
|---|---|---|
| Single choice | Multiple choice | One option |
| Multi choice | Checkboxes | Any number of options |
| Dropdown | Dropdown | One option from a menu |
| Yes or no | Yes or no | Yes or No |
| Ranking | Ranking | An order for all options |
Edit options straight on the card. Enter adds an option, and you can paste a list to create many at once. Options can be dragged to reorder. A question can have up to 200 options.
In the panel under Choices:
- Allow "Other" adds a free-text option (not available for yes or no, or ranking).
- Shuffle order shows each respondent a different order. Yes or no is never shuffled.
- Columns lays options out in 1 to 4 columns (not for dropdown or ranking).
- For checkboxes, Min picks and Max picks limit how many boxes can be ticked.
Multiple choice and checkboxes also have Option images, where each option can carry a picture.
A ranking question starts in the order you typed. The respondent drags rows or uses the up and down arrows next to each row, and the stored answer is the final order.
Rating questions
| Type | Label in the picker | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Scale | Linear scale | From 0 or 1, to a maximum of 2 to 10 |
| Rating | Star rating | 1 to a maximum of 3 to 10 stars |
| NPS | Net promoter score | Fixed 0 to 10 |
| Slider | Slider | Any minimum and maximum, with a step (default 0 to 100 in steps of 1) |
Scale, star rating and NPS take whole numbers only. Slider answers are not restricted to whole numbers.
Each of them has a Low label and High label under the control. The NPS question comes with "Not likely" and "Very likely" already filled in. For a slider, the minimum, maximum and step are set in the panel under Range.
Answers to all four are numbers, so they can be averaged in the results, used in show-if rules, and used in calculated fields.
Grids
A grid asks the same question about several rows.
| Type | Label in the picker | Each row takes |
|---|---|---|
| Choice grid | Choice grid | One column |
| Checkbox grid | Checkbox grid | Any number of columns |
A new grid has two rows and three columns. Edit the labels under Rows and Columns on the card, and add or remove as needed, up to 50 of each. Turn on Require an answer in every row in the panel when a required grid should not be satisfied with one filled row.
Plans
By default the Free plan can publish multiple choice, checkboxes, dropdown, yes or no, scale, star rating and NPS, along with the text, number, date and time types. Ranking, slider and both grids need a plan that includes all question types. In the type picker, locked types are marked with a Pro chip. You can add a locked type to a draft and try it in the preview, but publishing a form that uses one is refused until the plan allows it. The registry defaults are in Default plan limits.
Logic and quizzes
Every type on this page can be the subject of a show-if rule. Choice types have quiz answer keys: tick the check mark on each correct option. Ranking and grid questions have no answer-key controls in the builder, so treat them as unscored in quizzes.
